Roberto Assagioli identified the seven core concepts and the principles of psychosynthesis as necessary components of any educational training process or program leading to a personal or professional practice. These seven core concepts are listed here as all necessary in order to distinguish psychosynthesis as a distinct concept and as a distinct practice. They are:
- The Personal Self. A core concept that is sometimes referred to as “I”. This is a central aspect of ourselves that is able to observe external and internal (personal) experience objectively.
- Disidentification: This is a principle that operates as a practice in objective observation. It is a function of the Personal Self.
- Will: This is the ability to make conscious choices once we have engaged in the practice of disidentification.
- Ideal Model: This the view that role models (people, ideas, values) influence our choices.
- The Superconscious: This core concept is seen as a part of ourselves, our inner experience, that transcends or urges us toward greater levels of achieving and utilizing our inherent potentials
- Transpersonal Self: This is a core concept that recognizes that we are part of something greater than our personal experience.
- Synthesis: Synthesis an organic process by which we evolve into fulfillment of our inherent potentials.
